Course Description
This practical course equips learners with the skills needed to prepare a surgical area, set up a surgical drill, and safely remove sutures. It covers suture types and their uses, instruments for removal, and cross-infection control procedures. Participants will practice removal techniques, understand professional responsibilities, provide accurate post-operative advice, and complete a logbook of clinical experience.
This course is suitable for Dental Nurses, Hygienists, Therapists and Orthodontic Therapists.
Course Aims
- To provide information on how to set up the surgery and surgical drill for oral surgery procedures and provide dental nurses with the knowledge to develop the skills required for the safe removal of sutures after the wound has been checked by the dentist.
Course Objectives
At the end of this session delegates should be able to:
- Appropriately prepare the surgery and set up the drill for surgical procedures
- Identify various sutures used for specific procedures including types of sutures available and their uses
- Identify instrumentation used in the removal of sutures
- Apply appropriate cross infection procedures
- Demonstrate the technique of removal of sutures
- Highlight their responsibilities and accountabilities
- Describe appropriate post-op instructions
- Complete a logbook of 10 patient experiences in practice
Course Learning Content
Participants will be able to identify sutures, where they are placed and be able to remove the sutures under instructions.
