Course Aims

  • To equip dental hygienist & therapists with the theoretical knowledge and practical skills to safely and effectively deliver air polishing therapy.

Course Objectives

  • Understand the principles and mechanisms of air polishing therapy.
  • Identify the indications and contraindications for air polishing therapy.
  • Compare air polishing with traditional methods of stain and biofilm removal.
  • Select appropriate powders and equipment based on patient needs and appliance types.
  • Demonstrate safe and effective air polishing techniques.
  • Apply infection control and health and safety protocols during air polishing procedures.
  • Evaluate patient outcomes and deliver appropriate aftercare advice.

  • Describe the clinical principles of air polishing and its role in patient care.
  • Explain the differences between supragingival and subgingival air polishing powders and when each is appropriate.
  • Identify suitable air polishing powders and understand their properties and uses.
  • Perform air polishing therapy effectively.
  • Assess patient suitability and manage risks associated with air polishing therapy.
  • Demonstrate effective patient communication regarding the procedure, benefits, and post-care.
