Course Aims

  • Review current concepts in the treatment of advanced periodontal disease.

  • To discuss the principles of dental ethics and law.
  • To explore the importance of good record keeping.
  • To discuss the application of the GDC Standards for the Dental Team.
  • Review treatment guidelines for Stage I-III Periodontitis: “4 steps” in Periodontal Therapy.
  • Describe current treatment regimens for Stage IV periodontitis and peri-implantitis.

Course Learning Content

By the end of the session delegates should appreciate how the principles of dental law and ethics can be applied to dental practice and understand ways to minimise dento-legal problems.

This presentation will focus on current concepts in the treatment of periodontal disease, including the stepwise approach to non-surgical therapy and the options for surgical intervention. Using treated cases, the management of patients with Stage IV disease will also be described. Finally the presentation will review the recently published guidelines on the treatment of peri-implantitis.
