Course Description
This session gives an overview of the law on consent and explains how it applies in dental practice. It sets out how the legal position has changed over time and how these developments link to the General Dental Council’s Standards for the Dental Team. The session also looks at practical ways to obtain and record consent in day‑to‑day clinical work.

At the end of this session delegates should be able to:
- Appreciate how the consent law has evolved
- Know how consent law, as defined by the courts, relates to the relevant GDC ‘Standards’
- Better understand how consent may be obtained and demonstrated in practice.

This lecture is intended to help you understand the law of consent in the UK and how dental practitioners can best ensure and demonstrate that consent has been gained.
