Course Aims
- To raise awareness of the need to safeguarding adults and children and to have knowledge and understanding of relevant laws and procedures for protecting and reporting in your organisation and in accordance with RQIA minimum standards.
- To highlight various dentolegal scenarios and management. Discuss complaints handling in practice.
Course Objectives
- Recognise and respond appropriately to child and Adult safeguarding issues.
- Understand own role and the role of others within their organisation using their safeguarding policies and procedures.
- Recognise that harm is wrong and that it should not be tolerated.
- Recognise the signs of harm from abuse, exploitation and neglect.
- Reduce opportunities for harm from abuse, exploitation and neglect to occur.
- Know how and when to report safeguarding concerns to the Child Protection Designated Officer or Adult Safeguarding Champion, HSC Trusts or the PSNI.
- Discuss various dentolegal topics such as consent/adverse incidents amongst others by way of scenarios.
- Have a better understanding of complaints handling in Northern Ireland.
Course Learning Content
Categories of abuse and be able to identify when a child or adult is in need or at risk of significant harm.
Signs and indicators of child and adult abuse and contributory factors.
Staff policy and procedures.
Reporting Procedures.
Record Keeping.
Interactive dentolegal scenarios touching on areas of cosnet/adverse incidents/managing patient expectations and others. Alongside outline of the new Health Service complaints policy and how it can be managed in practice.
