Course Aims
To enhance participants’ understanding of contemporary adhesive dentistry, with particular emphasis on the effective use of universal bonding agents. The course will review the scientific principles of enamel and dentine adhesion, evidence-based bonding protocols, and practical clinical applications to improve the predictability, longevity, and success of adhesive restorative procedures.
Course Objectives
By the end of the course participants should be able to:
- Describe the principles of enamel and dentine bonding.
- Explain the composition and mechanism of action of universal adhesives.
- Compare etch-and-rinse, self-etch, and selective enamel-etch bonding strategies.
- Identify factors that influence bond strength and durability.
- Apply evidence-based protocols for the clinical use of universal bonding agents.
- Recognise and manage common causes of adhesive failure.
Course Learning Content
Overview of adhesive dentistry and the evolution of bonding systems. Enamel and dentine substrates, hybrid layer formation, and mechanisms of adhesion. Composition and properties of universal bonding agents, including functional monomers such as 10-MDP. Clinical application techniques, selective enamel etching, isolation, solvent evaporation, and light curing. Review of current evidence, indications, limitations, troubleshooting, and strategies for improving long-term clinical outcomes in restorative dentistry.
