Course Description


Designated Officer Safeguarding Course for Dental Professional

This comprehensive Level 3 Safeguarding course is specifically designed for dental professionals in managerial or supervisory roles who hold designated safeguarding responsibilities. The course supports compliance with the Regulation and Quality Improvement Authority (RQIA) standards, which requires dental practices to promote and make proper provision for the welfare, care, and protection of service users.

Completion of this course ensures that designated officers are equipped to lead safeguarding efforts confidently and effectively within dental settings.

Course Aims

To provide the knowledge and skills required by the current legislation and guidelines to equip the Child Protection Officer with the competence to promote the safety and wellbeing of Children and Young People, within the remit of their role and responsibility and in accordance with RQIA minimum standards.

Course Objectives

  • Identify their own role and the role of others
  • Work together with other professionals to meet the needs of children where there are Safeguarding concerns
  • Indicate the importance of escalation regarding concerns about a child
  • Appreciate the impact of child abuse and neglect on child development
  • Appreciate the importance of governance and accountability arrangements
  • Ability to work within the court and child protection case conference processes to safeguard children
