Course Description
This course gives trainee Dental Nurses the core knowledge and basic skills needed to work safely in a dental healthcare setting. It is designed as an introduction before starting a formal, approved dental nursing programme. The session focuses on everyday duties, professional behaviour and safe patient care, helping trainees understand what is expected in the clinical environment
Course Aims
To provide Trainee Dental Nurses with the knowledge and skills to enable them to work safely and effectively in a dental healthcare environment prior to undertaking a formal approved course in Dental Nursing
Course Objectives
At the end of this session delegates should be able to:
- Identify the role and responsibilities of a trainee Dental Nurse
- Appreciate the skill set required to work within a multi-professional healthcare team
- Highlight the effective use of communication skills
- Indicate the key principles of confidentiality, consent, record keeping and documentation
- Explain the important principles of Health & Safety especially COSHH, infection prevention and control, sharps and ergonomics
- Explain the principles of safeguarding and the process for raising/escalating concerns
Course Learning Content
These training sessions are intended to create an understanding of the role and responsibilities of a trainee dental nurse and highlight safe systems of work to enable working in dental practice until a dental nurse course is completed
