Course Description

This interactive lecture and hands-on course is designed to introduce Dental Core Trainees (DCTs) to the essential principles and clinical techniques of root canal treatment. Delegates will explore the biological rationale, indications, and decision-making processes behind endodontic therapy. Practical sessions in the NIMDTA Dental Simulation Suite will provide experience in access cavity design using Simodont Dental Trainers, magnification with Q-Optics loupes, and canal preparation using the X-Smart Pro+ Endo Motor and ProTaper Ultimate files. By the end of the course, participants will be better equipped to safely and effectively shape, clean, and fill root canals, and to determine when to treat, defer, or refer cases.

Course Aims

To present the principles and practice of root canal treatment for Dental Core Trainees

Course Objectives

At the end of this session the delegates should be able to:

  • Understand the biological basis and indications for root canal treatment.
  • Understand the importance of access cavity design. There will be hands-on experience in the NIMDTA Dental Simulation Suite using Simodont Dental Trainers.
  • Understand the benefits of magnification devices. There will be hands-on experience using Q-Optics dental loupes supplied by SwordFish Medical.
  • Understand how to safely and effectively shape, clean and fill root canals. There will be hands-on experience using new X-Smart Pro+ Endo Motor, ProTaper Ultimate files supplied by Dentsply Sirona.
  • Understand when to treat, not treat, and refer.

Course Learning Content

This lecture and hands-on course is intended to promote safe and effective shaping, cleaning and filling of root canals within Dental Core Training. This course is aimed at DCTs who want to improve or refresh their knowledge and skills in root canal treatment, and make a decision on whether to carry out root canal treatment or refer the case.
