Course Aims
- To equip dental hygienist & therapists with the theoretical knowledge and practical skills to safely and effectively deliver air polishing therapy.
Course Objectives
- Understand the principles and mechanisms of air polishing therapy.
- Identify the indications and contraindications for air polishing therapy.
- Compare air polishing with traditional methods of stain and biofilm removal.
- Select appropriate powders and equipment based on patient needs and appliance types.
- Demonstrate safe and effective air polishing techniques.
- Apply infection control and health and safety protocols during air polishing procedures.
- Evaluate patient outcomes and deliver appropriate aftercare advice.
Course Learning Content
- Describe the clinical principles of air polishing and its role in patient care.
- Explain the differences between supragingival and subgingival air polishing powders and when each is appropriate.
- Identify suitable air polishing powders and understand their properties and uses.
- Perform air polishing therapy effectively.
- Assess patient suitability and manage risks associated with air polishing therapy.
- Demonstrate effective patient communication regarding the procedure, benefits, and post-care.
