Course Description
This short course helps clinicians strengthen their approach to diagnosis and treatment planning. It covers how to assess caries, periodontal status, occlusion, tooth wear and pulpal health, and how to judge the restorability of individual teeth.
You’ll explore how to weigh up treatment options using evidence, patient factors and long‑term outcomes. The course also looks at how to adapt plans to individual needs, expectations and medical histories.
Complex cases often need a team approach, so we’ll also discuss when and how to involve periodontics, endodontics, orthodontics, prosthodontics and oral surgery.
Course Aims
To develop participants’ confidence and competence in assessing dental conditions, evaluating treatment options, and creating patient‑centred, evidence‑based treatment plans, including when and how to involve a wider multidisciplinary team.
Course Objectives
By the end of the course, participants will be able to:
- Describe the diagnostic processes required to assess caries, periodontal status, occlusion, tooth wear, pulpal health, and restorative prognosis.
- Differentiate between treatment options based on evidence, patient factors, and long term prognosis.
- Evaluate the restorability of individual teeth using clinical and radiographic criteria.
- Adapt treatment plans to patient preferences, expectations and medical history.
- Discuss the role of multidisciplinary care, including periodontics, endodontics, prosthodontics, orthodontics, and oral surgery, in complex treatment planning.
