Course Description
2 part Fluoride Application course
This course provides dental professionals with a comprehensive understanding of their responsibilities under the General Dental Council’s (GDC) scope of practice, including professionalism, ethics, confidentiality, and consent. It also covers the principles and application of “Delivering Better Oral Health,” emphasizing evidence-based approaches to prevention and patient care.
Participants will gain practical knowledge of the caries process and the role of fluoride in its control, including hands-on training in fluoride varnish application. The course includes an objective assessment of clinical competence in this additional skill and aims to enhance communication abilities to support effective patient education and collaborative practice.
Part 2 will take place on Tuesday 3 February 2026 – 09:30-12:30 in Crown Plaza
Course Aims
- To train Registered Dental Nurses in the application of fluoride varnish to prevent dental caries.
Course Objectives
At the end of this session delegates should be able to:
- Identify the GDC’s scope of practice and the responsibilities of registrants, including professionalism, ethics, confidentiality and consent
- Deliver the correct knowledge, content and application of “Delivering Better Oral Health”, along with an explanation of the use of evidence based statements
- Identify the caries process and the role of fluoride in its control
- Apply fluoride varnish
- Complete an objective and structured assessment of clinical competence in the additional skill of fluoride application
- Improve communication skills
Course Learning Content
This training session is intended to create an understanding of fluoride, and the correct method for applying fluoride varnish.
